What began as a simple act of compassion ended up reshaping the life of Richard Odhiambo Otieno, a man from Kisumu, in ways he never imagined.

Back in 2017, Richard, then 33 years old, was out with friends when he noticed a young woman crying by the roadside.

Moved by concern, he approached her to find out what was wrong. The woman told him she was hungry, stranded, and had nowhere to go. Without hesitation, Richard decided to help.

He took her to his mother’s home, hoping she would find food, safety, and a place to rest. At the time, he believed he was simply doing the right thing—helping someone in need. However, that single decision would later change the course of his life.

When he returned later that evening, the woman was still there. Over time, they built a connection that blossomed into a relationship, and eventually, they were blessed with a child. But their happiness was short-lived.

The woman’s family strongly opposed the relationship, and the situation quickly escalated. One day, police officers stormed Richard’s home and arrested both of them. He was accused of going against the family’s wishes and was later sentenced to seven years in prison.

Life behind bars at Kodiaga Maximum Prison was extremely difficult. During the COVID-19 period, visits were restricted, and communication with his loved ones became nearly impossible. While in prison, he also learned that his partner was expecting another child, a revelation that left him emotionally broken.

After completing his sentence, Richard finally walked out a free man, hoping to reunite with his family and rebuild his life.

But instead of joy, he was met with another painful reality—his wife and children had disappeared. He was told that her family had relocated, leaving him with no trace of where they had gone.READ MORE.................
