ODM party leader and Siaya Senator, Oburu Oginga, is set to return to Kenya on Friday after a brief sabbatical in Dubai, quelling growing concerns about his health.

Oburu, 82, has been away from the public eye for nearly a week, prompting speculation among supporters and party members about his well-being.

However, Victor Marende, a long-time ally of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, confirmed that the veteran politician is in good spirits.

“I have just spoken to Senator Oburu Oginga by phone. He is upbeat, very active, and not sick. He will be back in the country on Friday,” Marende stated in a Facebook post.

The sabbatical, according to Oburu’s family, was a carefully planned break following an intense political schedule, including his participation in Raila Odinga’s burial and several key ODM activities.

His absence was aimed at rest and rejuvenation, rather than addressing any health issues.

Prior to his short break, Oburu had been highly engaged in party affairs. He played a pivotal role in the ODM 20th anniversary celebrations in Mombasa, attended numerous campaign rallies, and supported candidates such as Boyd Were in Kasipul, Homa Bay.

His involvement extended to grassroots consultations and forums, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to party activities even amidst personal loss and a demanding political calendar.

Oburu’s son, Jaoko Oburu, emphasized that the decision for the sabbatical was a family one, intended to provide the senator time for relaxation and light exercise.

He assured that the break would ensure Oburu returns refreshed and ready to continue his political engagements.

The announcement has reassured many party supporters and political observers who had expressed concern over Oburu’s sudden absence.

As ODM eyes upcoming electoral activities, the senator’s return is expected to reinvigorate the party’s grassroots operations and campaign strategies.

With his scheduled return on Friday, Oburu Oginga is set to resume active participation in party engagements, continuing his decades-long dedication to Kenyan politics and the ODM party.
