Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has strongly denied claims that he has fallen out with the family of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

The lawmaker described the allegations circulating online as false and misleading, insisting that his relationship with the Odinga family remains strong.

In a statement shared on social media on Monday, December 15, Babu Owino said that Raila Odinga’s widow, Mama Ida Odinga, has always treated him like a son.

He dismissed claims that he had disrespected or insulted her, saying such accusations were completely untrue.

According to the MP, Mama Ida has continued to welcome him warmly whenever he visits the family home.

He said she shows him kindness, offers him food, and treats him as part of the family, something he deeply values and respects.

Babu Owino also clarified that he maintains close ties with other members of the Odinga family. He named Winnie Odinga, Rosemary Odinga, and Raila Odinga Jnr as people he considers friends and family.

“How could I insult their mother when they are my friends?” he asked, adding that it would be unthinkable for him to disrespect someone who has shown him so much love and care over the years.

The MP said that some individuals on social media have been spreading lies in an attempt to create division within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

He insisted that the claims were meant to damage his reputation and weaken party unity during a sensitive period.

His clarification comes shortly after Winnie Odinga publicly acknowledged him during a family burial in Bondo.

Speaking during the funeral of her aunt, Beryl Odinga, Winnie mentioned Babu Owino as a close friend and a committed member of ODM.

During her address, Winnie urged party members to remain united despite personal differences. She said that unity does not mean everyone must like each other, but rather that they must learn to accept and work together for the greater good of the party.

She then asked Babu Owino to stand and acknowledged him as “one of us,” a statement that drew attention both at the burial and online.

Following the event, Babu Owino thanked Winnie for recognizing him publicly. In a separate social media post, he suggested that some people present at the burial were uncomfortable with his presence and did not want him to speak.

“Thank you for standing up for me. You could see through their intentions,” he wrote, expressing appreciation for her gesture.

Since the death of Raila Odinga, Babu Owino has found himself at the center of discussions about possible divisions within ODM.

Despite the rumours, Babu Owino insists that he remains loyal to ODM and respectful of the Odinga family.

He said that his political journey has been shaped by mentorship, loyalty, and shared values, and that he would not betray those principles.

The MP urged the public to ignore false narratives spread online and instead focus on facts.

He added that moments of national mourning should not be used to fuel political propaganda or personal attacks.
