A DCI officer leading the investigation has reviewed CCTV recordings that show what happened before the tragic incident, giving the court a clearer picture of her final moments.
According to police, Lorna spent the evening with a group of friends from different colleges. They were reportedly having fun at a party inside a building known as Harmony Plaza in Ngara, Nairobi. Later that night, she and one of the students stepped out to the balcony.
The CCTV footage, as explained in court, captured both of them attempting to jump from one balcony to another.

The CCTV footage, as explained in court, captured both of them attempting to jump from one balcony to another.
The young man who jumped first — identified as Kariuki Gitonga — managed to land safely. But when Lorna followed, she missed her step and fell from the 12th floor.
The DCI officer testified that this moment was the last time she was seen alive.
Investigators also confirmed that Lorna had taken alcohol before the fall. A toxicology test carried out after her death showed the presence of alcohol in her blood. Officers believe this may have affected her balance and judgment.
Following the incident, seven students were arrested as police tried to piece together what happened. They were:
Dennis Kariuki Gitonga
Louis Osiro
Lucy Mora
Ali Kabwana Kamaku
Precious Kendi Mutembei
Austin Ochieng
Wendy Kerubo
These students were kept in custody for seven days as detectives continued their inquiries. However, after reviewing the CCTV evidence and completing initial investigations, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) announced that a public inquest would be the next step.

This means the court will now hear all the evidence in detail to determine whether anyone should be held responsible for Lorna’s death.
The seven students have since been released, but they will be required to appear as witnesses during the proceedings.
Lorna’s death has left many students and families shocked. She was a young woman with great promise, studying at one of Kenya’s leading universities. Friends described her as cheerful and hardworking.
As the public inquest begins, Kenyans hope that all the unanswered questions will finally be addressed.

The inquiry will focus on how the events of that night unfolded, why the students attempted to move between balconies, and whether there were any actions that could have prevented the tragedy.
