Nominated MP Denar Hamisi Joseph tragically died on Saturday morning, December 6, after his car crashed near his home in Karen, Nairobi.

According to witnesses, the lawmaker was alone in his white SUV when the vehicle lost control, veered off the road, and hit a tree.

Eyewitness Mathew Owire described the scene, saying Hamisi suffered severe head injuries and heavy bleeding from the crash.

“I arrived and found him unconscious, bleeding heavily, and trapped against the door. We had to carefully pull him out before the police arrived,” Owire recounted.

Other bystanders joined in helping remove the MP from the wreckage.

The car’s front was badly damaged and was later towed to the police station for further investigation.

Authorities are looking into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula announced Hamisi’s death to the public shortly after 7 a.m., paying tribute to the late MP as a committed and hardworking representative.

“He will be fondly remembered for his humility and dedication to serving the nation and the people,” Wetang’ula said. He also extended heartfelt condolences to Hamisi’s family, friends, and colleagues.

Hamisi, who represented Mombasa County, had entered Parliament through the former Amani National Congress (ANC) party led by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.

Speaker Wetang’ula confirmed that a parliamentary committee, led by Deputy Leader of the Majority Party Owen Baya, will coordinate the arrangements for the lawmaker’s burial alongside the family.

The tragic loss has left family, colleagues, and constituents in shock, as Hamisi was known for prioritizing the welfare of ordinary citizens and serving with dedication.

Members of the public and fellow legislators have expressed grief over the untimely death of a young and committed parliamentarian.

This incident adds to recent concerns about road safety in Nairobi, where accidents involving vehicles losing control have become increasingly common.

Authorities are urging drivers to exercise caution, follow traffic regulations, and maintain vehicles properly to prevent similar tragedies.
