National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has spoken publicly after visiting Kwanza Constituency MP Ferdinand Wanyonyi, who is currently undergoing specialised medical treatment in India.
The visit took place at KIMS Health Care Management Limited in Kerala, a facility renowned for advanced rehabilitation and multidisciplinary medical care.
Wetang’ula’s remarks offered reassurance on the legislator’s condition and underscored optimism about his recovery.
According to the Speaker, he was encouraged by the visible progress Wanyonyi has made since commencing treatment. He noted that the MP remains under close medical supervision and is responding positively to the prescribed course of care.
Wetang’ula described Wanyonyi’s condition as stable, a development that has brought relief to colleagues, constituents, and family members who have been following his health journey closely.
During the visit, Wetang’ula received a detailed medical briefing from the attending team led by Dr. Nitha J, a consultant in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
The medical team explained that Wanyonyi is receiving comprehensive, multidisciplinary treatment tailored to his specific needs.
This approach integrates medical management, rehabilitation therapy, and continuous monitoring to support recovery and restore functional capacity.
Wetang’ula emphasized that the progress observed reflects both the quality of care at the facility and the MP’s determination throughout the rehabilitation process.
He noted that recovery from serious medical conditions often requires patience and consistency, adding that Wanyonyi’s response to treatment is a positive indicator for continued improvement in the coming weeks.
The Speaker also conveyed messages of solidarity and goodwill from parliamentary colleagues, highlighting the strong institutional support extended to Wanyonyi during his period of illness.
He stressed that the wellbeing of elected leaders is not only a personal matter but also a public concern, given their responsibilities to constituents and the nation.
Wanyonyi’s treatment abroad has drawn attention to the broader issue of access to specialised healthcare and the importance of timely medical intervention.
While acknowledging ongoing national efforts to strengthen local healthcare systems, Moses Wetang’ula noted that certain complex conditions still require advanced facilities and expertise available in select international centres.
He reiterated that the MP is receiving round-the-clock care and professional support, assuring constituents of Kwanza that their representative’s condition has stabilised and that progress, though gradual, remains steady.
