Nairobi Senator and ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna has issued a stern warning to Law Society of Kenya President Faith Odhiambo following the groundbreaking ceremony for the LSK's new headquarters.

In a pointed post on X dated January 30, 2026, Sifuna criticized the event, accusing organizers of inviting what he described as the biggest threat to Kenya's Constitution and the rule of law as guests of honor.
He referenced Section 4 of the Law Society of Kenya Act, which mandates the body to uphold the Constitution, advance the rule of law, and promote the administration of justice.

Sifuna highlighted that the guests arrived with financial contributions totaling 10 million shillings earmarked for the construction project.

He directly addressed Odhiambo, urging her in Swahili not to accept the money—"usichukue hio pesa"—implying the donation carried foul play or compromised the LSK's independence and integrity.

The criticism comes amid heightened political tensions in Kenya, where opposition figures like Sifuna have repeatedly accused the executive of undermining constitutional principles through various actions.

While the identity of the specific "threat" was not named in the post, the context suggests a swipe at high-profile government representatives or allies perceived as antagonistic to judicial independence and democratic norms.

The groundbreaking marked a significant milestone for the LSK, aiming to provide modern facilities for its growing membership and operations.

Donations from prominent figures or entities are common at such events to support infrastructure development.

However, Sifuna's intervention frames the contribution as potentially tainted, raising questions about influence peddling and the society's commitment to impartiality.

Odhiambo, who has faced scrutiny in recent months over other appointments and stances, has not publicly responded to the warning as of the latest updates.

The episode underscores ongoing friction between vocal opposition leaders and professional bodies navigating their roles in a polarized political landscape.

Sifuna's call has sparked debate on social media, with supporters echoing concerns over compromised institutions while others defend the practical need for funding.

As the LSK advances its headquarters project, the controversy highlights the delicate balance professional associations must strike between operational needs and unwavering defense of constitutional values.
