TV47 has reported claims that former President Uhuru Kenyatta has quietly thrown his weight behind a Kalonzo Musyoka–Martha Karua ticket ahead of the 2027 general election, a development that has already sparked wide political discussion across the country.

According to the report, insiders say the proposed opposition arrangement also places former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i in line for the role of Chief Cabinet Secretary, should the alliance eventually form government.

While these claims remain unconfirmed, they point to early maneuvering as key political players position themselves well before the next election cycle.

What remains unclear is the potential role of Democracy for the Citizens Party leader Rigathi Gachagua in such a post-2027 political setup, particularly if President William Ruto serves only one term.

No indication has been given on whether Gachagua would be accommodated within the emerging opposition framework or pursue a different political path altogether.

The reported developments come at a time of shifting political dynamics, especially in the Mt Kenya region.

NTV recently indicated that several leaders elected on the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket are reconsidering their political alignment and weighing a possible move to the opposition.

Among the names mentioned in political circles is Kikuyu Member of Parliament Kimani Ichung’wa, who also serves as the Leader of Majority in the National Assembly.

Speculation suggests he may be reassessing his long-term political strategy amid changing alliances.

By the time of publication, neither Kalonzo Musyoka nor Martha Karua had issued any statement responding to TV47’s report, and former President Uhuru Kenyatta has also not publicly addressed the claims.
