The victims, Elvis Echesa and Adonai Brian Munialo, lost their lives on Saturday, March 14, after the car they were travelling in crashed along Ushirika Road near the Boma Yangu Affordable Housing Units at around 4:20pm.
According to reports, the two had earlier attended the 2026 Cooperative University cultural event held at the famous The Carnivore Restaurant, where students had gathered for celebrations and performances. The accident occurred as they were heading back from the event.
Both Echesa and Munialo were well known within the university community, having served in the student council as finance secretaries during different periods of their studies.
Their leadership roles and active participation in campus activities had made them popular among fellow students and alumni.
An eyewitness who arrived at the scene shortly after the accident described the incident as shocking and deeply painful.
Kevin Edagisa, an MCA aspirant from Nkaimurunya Ward and a boda boda rider based in Gataka, said he received a call about the accident moments after it occurred.
Edagisa told reporters that when he reached the crash scene, rescue efforts were already underway but the victims had not yet been removed from the wreckage.
“It was a very painful moment for everyone who knew them. I was alerted about the accident and rushed to the scene. When I arrived, the bodies had not yet been retrieved,” he said.
According to Edagisa, the vehicle reportedly lost control after hitting a bump along the road before veering off and crashing into the nearby housing area.
He added that he was devastated to later discover that the victims were his close friends. Edagisa revealed that he had known the two since their early days at university and had maintained a strong friendship with them over the years.
“I have been their boda boda rider since their first days at the university. We became close because we all come from Western Kenya. They always supported my small business and connected me with other clients,” he said.
He particularly described Echesa as one of his closest friends, saying the news of his death came as a huge shock.
Reports indicate that Munialo, who was driving the vehicle at the time of the crash, was known among friends as a disciplined individual who did not drink alcohol.
Two other passengers who were travelling in the same vehicle reportedly survived the accident without serious injuries.
The bodies of the deceased have since been taken to the morgue in Ongata Rongai as families begin preparations for burial.
Friends, students, and leaders have continued to send messages of condolence to the grieving families, remembering the two as promising young leaders whose lives were tragically cut short.
