Speaking on Monday, the President said the government is implementing a range of infrastructure and digital employment initiatives aimed at creating thousands of jobs for young people across the country.
Ruto noted that for many years, young people struggled to find opportunities because of a lack of coordinated programmes designed specifically for them.
However, he insisted that the situation is changing as the government rolls out major projects under its national development agenda.
“Young people, I want you to listen to me carefully. For a long time the government did not have a clear plan for the youth, but today we have opportunities and programmes aimed at creating jobs for them,” the President said.
According to Ruto, several ongoing projects such as road construction, affordable housing developments, modern markets and student hostels are expected to generate significant employment opportunities, especially for young workers and entrepreneurs.
“These projects we are rolling out — roads, affordable housing, building markets and hostels — are meant to create jobs for our young people,” he explained.
The Head of State also highlighted the government’s digital employment initiative, which aims to connect Kenyan youth with online job opportunities both locally and internationally.
Through the programme, the government hopes to position young Kenyans to participate in the growing global digital economy.
“We want our young people to access digital jobs and be able to work not only in Kenya but also for the global market,” he said.
In addition, the President revealed that the government has already allocated Ksh5 billion to support youth-led enterprises and small businesses.

The funding is part of a broader initiative aimed at empowering young entrepreneurs to start and expand their own ventures.
According to Ruto, at least 120,000 young people have already benefited from the programme by receiving support to launch and operate businesses across various sectors of the economy.
The President emphasised that empowering youth through entrepreneurship and employment opportunities remains a key pillar of his administration’s economic agenda.
During the same address, Ruto also announced plans to expand electricity connectivity in Busia County as part of the government’s effort to improve access to power in underserved areas.
He revealed that the government has allocated Ksh1.5 billion to connect 16,000 additional households in the county to electricity by the end of the year.
“We have allocated Ksh1.5 billion to ensure that 16,000 households in Busia are connected to electricity this year,” the President said.
Ruto noted that expanding electricity access is essential for economic development, particularly in rural communities where reliable power can support businesses, schools and health facilities.
“Our goal is to ensure every part of Kenya has access to electricity and that no region is left behind in development,” he added.
The President’s remarks come as the government continues to implement programmes aimed at boosting economic growth while addressing the long-standing challenge of youth unemployment in the country.
Through infrastructure investments, digital job initiatives and entrepreneurship funding, the administration hopes to provide sustainable opportunities for Kenya’s growing youth population while strengthening the country’s economic future.
