According to a report attributed to the Daily Nation on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, four armed men were involved in the late-night attack that took place around 2 a.m. on Sunday, May 3, 2026, inside the church compound in Nakuru.
Investigations indicate that the assailants gained entry by disguising themselves as police officers, a tactic that initially misled the church’s night security guard, Bernard Nyamwaka, who was on duty at the time.
The attackers reportedly confronted Nyamwaka first at the gate before overpowering and assaulting him.
Once subdued, the guard was allegedly used as part of the deception strategy to access the residence of Reverend Ndumia, which was located within the same compound.
Police reports suggest that the suspects forced Nyamwaka to accompany them to the clergyman’s house, where they instructed him to help convince the pastor that they were legitimate law enforcement officers carrying out official duties.
Trusting the explanation, Reverend Ndumia reportedly opened the door, unaware of the danger awaiting him inside. Investigators say the attackers immediately forced their way into the house once the door was opened.
Once inside, both the reverend and the security guard were restrained and tied up. The assailants then proceeded to violently assault the clergyman, with reports indicating that he sustained severe injuries, particularly to the head.
After the attack, the suspects fled the scene, leaving the victims inside the residence. Reverend Ndumia was later found lifeless within the house, sparking shock and grief among church members and residents.
Police from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have since made progress in the case, with two of the four suspects reportedly arrested and taken into custody. The remaining two are still at large as investigations continue.
Authorities say they are pursuing leads to determine the full circumstances surrounding the attack, including the identities of all individuals involved and whether the suspects are linked to other criminal activities in the region.
The murder of Reverend Ndumia has continued to raise concerns about security in places of worship and residential compounds, with residents calling for increased protection and faster response to emergency situations.
Investigations remain ongoing as police work to apprehend the remaining suspects and bring all those responsible for the killing to justice.
