Voting has officially begun in Emurua Dikirr as residents turned out early in the morning to participate in a closely watched by-election aimed at filling the parliamentary seat left vacant following the death of former MP Johanna Ng’eno.

At Kapweria Polling Station within Kabolecho School, voters were seen queuing patiently under calm conditions as election officials opened the voting process and prepared for a full day of civic activity.

The by-election has attracted multiple candidates from different political parties, all seeking to secure the seat in the National Assembly and influence the future political direction of the constituency.

Among the contenders is Cherono Desma, who is running on the Party of National Unity ticket and positioning herself as an alternative voice focused on new leadership and policy change.

The ruling United Democratic Alliance has fielded David Kipsang Keter, who is banking on strong grassroots support and backing from the party structure to secure victory.

Also in the race is Gideon Koech, whose campaign has centered on development promises targeting rural communities and local infrastructure needs.

Kipronoh Rotich is also on the ballot, campaigning on economic empowerment and social justice issues, particularly appealing to working-class voters.

The final contender, Vincent Kibet, has focused much of his campaign on engaging young voters, hoping to convert youth participation into electoral support.

Election officials have maintained that the voting exercise is proceeding smoothly, with security personnel deployed to ensure order and prevent any disruptions.

Observers say turnout will be a key factor in determining the outcome, as parties closely monitor voter mobilisation in different wards across the constituency.

As counting preparations begin, attention is expected to shift to tallying centres later in the day, where results will start shaping the political future of Emurua Dikirr.
