A joint police operation in Kutus town, Kirinyaga County, has led to the arrest of seven suspected members of a criminal gang believed to be behind a series of robberies and violent activities in the region.
The operation took place on the evening of November 17, 2025.
According to reports, officers drawn from Kirinyaga East and Mwea East sub-counties stormed the Maisha Kamili area, where the suspects were allegedly hiding.
During the raid, police recovered housebreaking tools, knives, and pangas believed to have been used in previous crimes.
The seven suspects were immediately taken into custody and are expected to be arraigned in court after processing.
Authorities say the gang has been on their radar for several weeks following multiple complaints from residents about burglary, muggings, and attacks in the area.
“The operation was part of an ongoing crackdown aimed at restoring peace and order in Kutus and its surroundings,” a senior police officer said.
The National Police Service (NPS) has assured residents that more similar operations will be conducted to weed out gangs that continue to terrorize communities.
In a statement, the NPS emphasized that dismantling criminal groups remains a top priority in safeguarding the lives and property of Kenyans.
“We remain committed to sustained operations to protect communities from criminal gangs. Public safety is our responsibility, and we will not relent in ensuring law and order,” the statement read.
Police also appealed to members of the public to continue providing timely and accurate information to help in the fight against crime.
They stressed that community intelligence has played a critical role in recent arrests and will remain a key factor in future security operations.
