NAIROBI, December 3, 2025 – Former Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has responded to the sudden rejection of his deputy governor offer by Makadara MP George Aladwa, alleging that powerful political forces intervened to derail their partnership.
In a strongly worded statement released on social media, Kuria claimed that Aladwa was summoned by "holders of extremely powerful offices" and ordered to denounce their agreement on the Nairobi gubernatorial ticket.
The former CS said he respects Aladwa's decision but suggested the rejection was not entirely voluntary.
"I want to tell those forces to relax. I want to be Governor of Nairobi to save this collapsing city. But it's not a life and death affair for me," Kuria stated, maintaining a defiant tone despite the setback.
The partnership between Kuria and Aladwa, announced just days earlier on December 1, had raised eyebrows across Kenya's political landscape due to their different party affiliations.
Aladwa, who serves as ODM Nairobi Branch Chairman, publicly declined the offer on Tuesday, affirming his own gubernatorial ambitions on an ODM ticket.
Kuria's response included a strategic observation about the rejection, noting that it revealed his opponents' 2027 election strategy prematurely.
"Again by doing this you have let the cat out of the bag too early. Now we know your 2027 game plan. Thanks a million!" he wrote.
The former Trade Cabinet Secretary has positioned himself as a problem-solver focused on addressing Nairobi's persistent challenges with waste management, traffic congestion, and service delivery.
The dramatic turn of events adds intrigue to what is shaping up to be a highly competitive race for Nairobi's top county position.
Other confirmed aspirants include incumbent Governor Johnson Sakaja, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, and businesswoman Agnes Ngure.
Kuria has indicated he will continue his gubernatorial campaign and is expected to announce a new running mate in the coming weeks.
