Senior advocate and political strategist Saitabao Ole Kanchory has reignited debate within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) after issuing a strongly worded statement on internal party divisions and loyalty to opposition ideals.

In a post shared on his official X account, Kanchory — who served as Raila Odinga’s chief agent during the 2022 presidential election and is a long-time ODM legal strategist — accused some party leaders of inconsistency and political opportunism.

He stated that leaders including Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, Siaya Governor James Orengo, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, and himself had consistently opposed what he described as an “illegitimate broad-based arrangement,” both during Raila Odinga’s active leadership and after events surrounding his death, which Kanchory referred to as sudden and mysterious.

Kanchory contrasted their position with that of National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi, ODM chairperson John Mbadi, and MP Sallah, claiming the trio only became vocal critics after Odinga’s absence from active politics.

A respected figure in Kenya’s legal and political circles, Kanchory is known for his outspoken defence of opposition principles and constitutionalism.

His remarks reflect growing unease within ODM as the party grapples with leadership direction, internal unity, and the future of opposition politics in Kenya amid shifting alliances and power realignments.
