Former Deputy President and DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua on Sunday evening described a violent incident at Witima ACK Church, Othaya, where he alleged a coordinated attack by rogue police officers.

Speaking to the press, Gachagua claimed the attackers were under the command of two bodyguards linked to a Woman Representative.

Gachagua said about 15 officers stormed the church, targeting worshippers indiscriminately.

“They injured women and children and hurt many people. The police torched one of my vehicles, a Toyota Land Cruiser, registration KDK 002.

They deflated the tyres of everyone who was in church and caused untold damage to vehicles. They beat people outside the church mercilessly,” he said.

He revealed that the attackers arrived in a matatu and were armed with AK-47 rifles.

“We have collected some 7.62-millimetre cartridges, which they brought to kill. They were aiming for our blood,” Gachagua added, underscoring the severity of the assault.

The former deputy president accused the officers of executing a politically motivated attack, highlighting that the violence occurred amid a rising wave of political tension following his impeachment.

He called for an impartial investigation into the incident to hold the perpetrators accountable.

The incident has sparked national outrage, with human rights groups condemning the attack on a place of worship.

The Witima church attack raises concerns about security for public figures and the safety of citizens during religious gatherings, as calls intensify for a thorough investigation into the forces behind the violence.
