ODM MP Peter Kaluma has weighed into a fast spreading political storm after a public altercation involving Babu Owino and Robert Alai.

The incident happened inside a popular Nairobi restaurant and was captured on CCTV. The footage has circulated widely online and sparked heated debate among Kenyans.

The video shows Babu Owino walking toward a group that included Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai.

Witnesses say the exchange quickly turned tense and voices were raised. Moments later a struggle followed as diners watched in disbelief.

Several clips shared on social media appear to show Alai holding a firearm during the confrontation.

No gunshots were heard and no injuries were reported. Still the sight of a weapon in a public place alarmed many viewers.

Police sources confirmed that the incident took place on January 5 2026. Investigators have since reviewed the CCTV footage and online videos. Both politicians are expected to record statements as inquiries continue.

Reacting on X Peter Kaluma said he had watched the video carefully. He argued that Alai acted with caution while facing what he described as a charging opponent. Kaluma warned that giving Babu Owino space could lead to danger.

Kaluma also referred to the 2019 DJ Evolve shooting case linked to Owino.

That case remains deeply etched in the public memory. His remarks have drawn mixed reactions from ODM supporters and critics alike.

Babu Owino later issued his own statement denying wrongdoing. He said he acted in self defense and urged leaders to respect the rule of law. Owino added that violence has no place in leadership.

Robert Alai has in the past accused Owino of intimidation and threats. Their rivalry has played out publicly over several years.

A past video showed Owino forcefully tackling Alai during a public event.

Political observers say the clash reflects deeper tensions within ODM and Azimio.

They warn such incidents could damage party unity. Public confidence in elected leaders may also suffer.

Online reactions remain sharply divided across platforms. Some users condemn the presence of a gun in a restaurant. Others agree with Kaluma and cite Owino’s past controversies.

As investigations proceed the incident continues to dominate political discussion. It has renewed calls for restraint among leaders. Many Kenyans want accountability without further escalation.

Security experts urge calm dialogue accountability and swift legal action to prevent future confrontations involving armed politicians in public spaces nationwide.
