Nairobi senator and ODM secretary general Edwin Sifuna has dismissed claims that he could be removed from his position, asserting his unwavering commitment to the party despite ongoing leadership tensions.

Speaking on Citizen TV on Tuesday, February 4, Sifuna emphasized that no one has the authority to expel him from ODM and that he has no plans to leave the party.

Sifuna acknowledged the possibility of a special National Delegates Convention (NDC) being convened and his position being reassigned but maintained that he would accept the decision gracefully.

He highlighted the talent of younger party members, suggesting they could perform the role of SG even better than he or his predecessors.

"It is not anyone’s birthright to be SG or to hold any position in the party," he remarked.

The Nairobi senator also criticized the procedural handling of Oburu Oginga’s installation as interim party leader following Raila Odinga’s passing.

According to Sifuna, some officials did not follow the party constitution, and he would have preferred a deputy to act temporarily until a proper NDC was convened.

Earlier, calls were made by some ODM leaders to remove Sifuna from his position, with allegations that he and other MPs were opposing party directives and showing sympathy toward former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Homa Bay Town MP George Peter Kaluma urged party leaders to convene an urgent Parliamentary Group meeting to address what he described as internal sabotage.

Narok senator Ledama Olekina also hinted at plans to remove Sifuna for consistently challenging party positions, reflecting a growing rift within the ODM leadership.

Despite these tensions, Sifuna reaffirmed his loyalty to the party and insisted that he will not quit ODM under any circumstances.

As the party navigates these internal changes, Sifuna’s bold stance has sparked discussions on leadership succession, party unity, and adherence to constitutional procedures.

The possibility of a special NDC looms, but Sifuna’s remarks make it clear that he intends to remain a steadfast member of ODM.
