Martin Namasaka, a young man from Nairobi, has drawn attention with an unconventional hustle: walking around with a Wi‑Fi router mounted on his head to offer internet access to people for about KSh 60 per day.

Namasaka, who arrived in Nairobi in December 2025, explains that his idea grew out of a love for the look of routers and the need to make money amid unemployment.

With the money, he bought a router for KSh 2,500, a protective helmet for KSh 800, overalls for KSh 3,000, and boots for KSh 2,000.

Each day he heads into crowded areas, hopping on matatus or setting up where there are many people.

He advertises his service through touts and lets customers connect to his 4G/5G signal for browsing, charging modest daily fees. On a good day he earns around KSh 50–60, though the amount can vary.

The attention‑grabbing setup is deliberate: Namasaka says mounting the router on his head helps draw interest from potential customers. Yet not everyone is convinced.

Some people are skeptical of his intentions, accusing him of trying to steal personal information or money claims he strongly denies, insisting his work is honest hustle, not hacking.

Despite the challenges, reactions online have been mixed but mostly supportive, with many praising his creativity and entrepreneurial spirit, while others raise practical concerns about public Wi‑Fi security.

Namasaka hopes his unique approach could even catch the eye of major telecommunications firms like Safaricom for ambassador roles, especially in rural areas where affordable connectivity remains a challenge.
