Police in Murang'a County have launched investigations into the shocking death of a 44-year-old woman whose body was discovered inside a village house under disturbing circumstances.

The deceased, identified as Mercy Wamaitha, was found dead on March 8, 2026, in a small mud-walled room in Kiamakumi Village.

According to investigators, the scene left residents stunned after a bucket filled with blood was discovered near her body.

Authorities say the mother of six had been married for many years to Macharia wa Njeri, although their relationship had reportedly faced serious challenges over the past three years.

Police reports indicate that Wamaitha had frequently left her matrimonial home during that period and had taken up work as a house help in different towns.

Speaking after learning about the tragedy, her husband revealed that he had tried several times to reconcile with her and bring her back home.

He explained that during the past three years he had travelled multiple times to pick her up from the same house where she was later found dead.

According to him, three days before her death, Wamaitha had left their home once again, saying she was going to visit a man she had been seeing.

Despite the difficulties in their marriage, the husband said he still cared deeply for her and had planned to go and persuade her to return home.

Investigators believe that Wamaitha had been visiting the house where her body was found for some time. The house is reportedly owned by Justus Kamau, who has since become the main suspect in the case.

Preliminary police reports indicate that on the night before her death, Wamaitha and the suspect reportedly shared a meal at the suspect’s grandmother’s house. They are said to have eaten ugali and beans before returning to the room where the incident later occurred.

Hours later, neighbours were reportedly woken by unusual noise coming from the compound. When they went to check, they discovered Wamaitha lying lifeless inside the house.

A post-mortem examination conducted on March 12 revealed that the woman had suffered multiple stab wounds. Doctors reported that she had five stab injuries—four on the thigh and one on the palm.

Medical experts said the wounds severed a major artery, leading to severe bleeding that ultimately caused her death.

Police have since arrested the main suspect and are continuing with investigations to determine the exact circumstances that led to the fatal attack.

The incident has shocked residents of Maragua, with many calling for justice and urging authorities to ensure that those responsible are held accountable.
