Maureen Njeri, a young mother, recounted that she blacked out on July 28 after returning home from seeing off a friend — only to wake up two days later in a pool of blood, badly bruised and unable to remember what had happened.
The most unsettling part of Maureen's story came from her neighbor, who revealed hearing alarming noises on the night of the incident.
"I had no idea anything was wrong until I woke up two days later," Maureen told reporters.
"My face was swollen, my eye was red. I could tell I had been beaten, but I don’t remember anything. It’s like someone turned off my memory."
She believes she may have been drugged before being attacked and said the assailant must have locked her in the house afterward.
Disturbingly, her young child was not at home that night, which she says may have spared the child from witnessing the violence.
When Maureen approached her neighbor for any clues, she was shocked to learn that screams were indeed heard, but no one had come to her aid.
"It’s scary to think I was crying for help, and no one came," she said.
The incident has sparked widespread concern online, with many Kenyans questioning why the neighbor did not intervene or call the police.
Some suspect the attacker may have been someone Maureen knew well. Maureen has since reported the matter to the police, though she has yet to obtain the official medical report (P3 form) required to launch a full investigation.
She says she’s focused on understanding what happened and finding justice.
"I just want answers. I want whoever did this to be held accountable," she added.
