Speaking during a memorial service held at Christ Is The Answer Ministries Valley Road, Everose Chemtai gave mourners a heartfelt glimpse into their 46-year marriage and the deep bond they shared.
According to Everose, she first met Dr Obwaka while they were both working in a hospital theatre in Machakos, where the late medic had gone to pursue postgraduate studies.
She recalled being immediately impressed by his appearance, confidence, and success, saying those qualities naturally attracted her to him from the very beginning.
Everose told mourners that Dr Obwaka stood out because he was intelligent, ambitious, financially stable, and carried himself with confidence.
She also noted that he drove a good car at the time, something she jokingly admitted contributed to the strong first impression he made on her.
Beyond material success, however, she emphasized that it was his kindness, respect, and commitment to their relationship that made her fall deeply in love with him.
The emotional tribute painted the picture of a couple that built a strong and lasting marriage despite the pressures that came with Dr Obwaka’s demanding medical career.
Everose described their union as loving, peaceful, and stable, adding that they were blessed with seven children and nine grandchildren over the course of their marriage.
She told mourners that she trusted her husband completely and never felt the need to closely monitor his movements, explaining that his profession required discipline and long working hours.
According to her, despite his busy schedule as a doctor, Dr Obwaka always prioritized his family and consistently returned home after work.
In one of the emotional highlights of her speech, Everose revealed that throughout their 46 years together, her husband never spent a single night away from home.
Her remarks drew emotional reactions from mourners, many of whom applauded the couple’s commitment and loyalty to each other.
She also shared humorous memories from their marriage, including the affectionate nicknames she used for her husband depending on her mood, moments that briefly turned the emotional memorial service into laughter and celebration.
Everose recalled how the couple built their lives together while working at Kenyatta National Hospital before eventually relocating and investing in their home region in Kisii.
Friends and family members described Dr Obwaka as a dedicated doctor, loving husband, and generous community figure whose sudden death has left many shocked.
The memorial service attracted colleagues, friends, and leaders who praised the late medic for his contribution to healthcare and community development.
As she concluded her tribute, Everose encouraged young people to marry for genuine love and commitment rather than temporary attraction or material gain.
She said strong relationships are built on trust, sacrifice, companionship, and mutual respect, values she believes sustained her marriage for nearly half a century.
Her touching remarks have since sparked widespread admiration online, with many Kenyans describing the Obwakas’ marriage as an example of enduring love and family unity.
