Fresh details have emerged about the final days of veteran gynaecologist Dr Job Obwaka after his family revealed the emotional message he sent to his younger brother shortly before his sudden death.

Speaking during a memorial service held on May 13, Dr William Obwaka opened up about the close relationship he shared with his elder brother, describing him as both a mentor and a guiding figure in his medical career.

According to William, the late doctor had been in regular communication with him while he was on sabbatical leave in the United States.

One particular WhatsApp message, however, has continued to haunt him since Dr Obwaka’s death.

William revealed that his brother sent him a heartfelt reminder urging him never to forget his calling as a doctor and his responsibility to serve humanity through medicine.

He said the message now feels painfully significant following the medic’s sudden passing.

The emotional revelation moved mourners during the memorial service, with many describing the late doctor as a man deeply committed to both family and professional excellence.

William also disclosed that Dr Obwaka continued supporting him professionally even while he was abroad.

According to him, the veteran medic personally helped renew his practising licences and professional memberships to ensure he remained compliant within the medical field.

Dr Obwaka died on May 1 after reportedly collapsing in Kitengela.

He was rushed to The Nairobi Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

An autopsy later confirmed that the 83-year-old died from cardiac arrest linked to an underlying heart condition.

His death came at a difficult moment in his life, as he had recently become embroiled in leadership disputes at The Nairobi Hospital.

In March, Dr Obwaka and several other officials had appeared in court over allegations involving conflict of interest, falsification of records, and failure to submit financial statements.

The late medic denied all the accusations and was released on bond pending further court proceedings.

William told mourners that the legal battles appeared to take a heavy toll on his brother’s health and emotional wellbeing.

He recalled that during one of the court appearances, Dr Obwaka reportedly collapsed and required urgent medical attention, raising concerns about his deteriorating condition.

The younger brother further hinted that he may continue pursuing the leadership and governance battles his brother had been involved in at the hospital.

He suggested that Dr Obwaka strongly believed in accountability and proper management within healthcare institutions and had been determined to defend his position.

Despite widespread public debate surrounding the circumstances leading to his death, the family clarified that no lawsuit has been filed so far.

According to relatives, they are waiting for investigations and official processes to be completed before deciding on any further legal action.

Friends, colleagues, and mourners who attended the memorial service described Dr Obwaka as a respected medical professional who dedicated decades of his life to improving healthcare in Kenya.

Many praised him for mentoring younger doctors and for remaining committed to the medical profession even in his later years.

As tributes continue pouring in, the final WhatsApp message to his younger brother has now become one of the most emotional memories left behind by the veteran doctor — a reminder of his dedication to medicine, family, and service to others.
