Majimbo Kalasinga has claimed that he was the only Member of Parliament from Western Kenya within the Kenya Kwanza coalition who opposed the impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Speaking during the burial ceremony of Annah Nyatoro Ndung’u, the mother of Kanini Kega, in Kieni, Kalasinga said he believed the impeachment process was unfair and politically driven.

The Kabuchai legislator stated that despite pressure from political allies, he chose to stand by Gachagua because leadership disagreements should not have been used as grounds to remove him from office.

According to Kalasinga, principles of fairness, justice, and respect for democratic leadership should guide political decisions regardless of party loyalties or coalition interests.

He further used the funeral gathering to urge opposition leaders to unite ahead of the 2027 General Election, warning that divisions among rival camps could strengthen President William Ruto politically.

Kalasinga argued that the opposition must rally behind a single presidential candidate if it hopes to mount a serious challenge against the current administration in the next election cycle.

The burial service attracted several prominent political figures from across the country, reflecting the growing political activity surrounding future alliances and realignments.

Among leaders present were Fred Matiang’i, Edwin Sifuna, Martha Karua, Eugene Wamalwa, and Godfrey Osotsi.

Several speakers at the event emphasized the importance of unity, dialogue, and strategic cooperation as political camps continue positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 elections.

Kalasinga’s remarks also highlight the continued political relevance of Gachagua following his impeachment, with some leaders increasingly revisiting the circumstances that led to his removal from office.

Political observers say such statements may signal emerging efforts to reshape alliances across both government and opposition circles as the national political landscape evolves.
