Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi has come out strongly in defense of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna pushing back against claims that Sifuna’s recent remarks amount to defiance within the Orange Democratic Movement.
Osotsi insists the statements in question were not acts of rebellion but a reflection of guidance Sifuna received from ODM leadership.
Speaking amid growing debate over unity and discipline in the party Osotsi said Sifuna was merely articulating positions that align with ODM’s long standing principles and internal consultations.
According to the Vihiga senator attempts to portray Sifuna as insubordinate are politically motivated and risk misrepresenting the party’s culture of open debate.
ODM has always encouraged robust discussion and honesty among its leaders Osotsi noted adding that Sifuna as the party’s Secretary General has a responsibility to communicate decisions and perspectives that emerge from within the movement.
He emphasized that disagreement should not be confused with disloyalty.
Osotsi further pointed out that ODM’s strength lies in its ability to accommodate diverse views while remaining anchored to its core values.
He argued that silencing leaders or mischaracterizing their statements could undermine the democratic ethos the party has championed for years.
The defense comes at a time when ODM is navigating internal realignments and responding to shifting national political dynamics.
Sifuna’s outspoken style has won him both praise and criticism with supporters lauding his candor and critics questioning his tone.
By backing Sifuna, Osotsi sought to calm tensions and refocus attention on what he described as the party’s broader mission advancing reforms protecting democratic space and representing the interests of Kenyans.
He urged party members to resolve differences through dialogue rather than public confrontation.
