EALA MP Hon. Kanini Kega has stirred political debate after posting on his official social media platforms that Winnie Odinga possesses the same qualities and political strength that the late Prime Minister Raila Odinga once had.
His remarks came after Winnie Odinga held a separate ODM rally on Sunday, 18th January 2026, at Kamukunji Grounds in Nairobi County, while another ODM faction led by Dr. Oburu Odinga was holding a parallel engagement in Kakamega County.
Kega’s statement quickly attracted attention, with many netizens flocking to his Facebook page to share their views.
A section of users agreed with him, praising Winnie Odinga’s leadership style and political influence.
One user, George Njunge, wrote that Dr. Oburu had witnessed firsthand the rise of a new political force, describing Winnie as a “lioness” whose voice signaled fresh energy within the party.
He suggested that the new generation was ready to take control of ODM from older political structures.
Kega’s post was widely interpreted as a clear sign of his support for Winnie Odinga. In the last General Elections, the former Kieni MP had supported Raila Odinga, and he now appears to be backing Winnie, with both currently serving as members of the East African Legislative Assembly.
Another supporter, Moses Nyukuri, echoed similar sentiments, commenting that Raila Odinga’s spirit and leadership lived on through Winnie.
The mixed reactions online reflect growing interest in Winnie Odinga’s political future and her potential role in shaping the direction of ODM amid internal party divisions.
