Wiper Democratic Movement leader Kalonzo Musyoka has joined a growing chorus of opposition leaders calling for the immediate release of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who is alleged to have been abducted in Othaya, Nyeri County.

The claims which began circulating on Tuesday have sparked political tension and renewed debate over the state of security and rule of law in the country.

Speaking to the media Kalonzo condemned the alleged incident describing it as deeply troubling and unacceptable in a democratic society.

He urged security agencies to act swiftly and transparently to clarify Gachagua’s whereabouts and ensure his safety.

Kalonzo warned that any form of enforced disappearance or extrajudicial action undermines constitutional freedoms and erodes public trust in state institutions.

Other opposition figures echoed Kalonzo’s concerns demanding accountability from the government and insisting that no Kenyan regardless of political affiliation should be subjected to unlawful detention or intimidation.

They called on the Inspector General of Police and the Interior Ministry to issue an immediate statement addressing the allegations and outlining steps being taken to investigate the matter.

According to opposition leaders the reported abduction in Othaya has heightened anxiety among Gachagua’s supporters and residents of Nyeri County, with calls for calm even as pressure mounts on authorities to act.

Some leaders framed the incident as part of a broader pattern of political harassment a claim the government has previously denied in similar situations.

By Wednesday evening there had been no official confirmation of an abduction with government agencies yet to provide a detailed response.

Opposition leaders insisted that silence from authorities only fuels speculation and fear urging swift communication to prevent escalation.

As the situation unfolds Kalonzo and his allies maintain that the protection of human rights and adherence to the rule of law must remain paramount warning that the nation is closely watching how the state handles the allegations surrounding Rigathi Gachagua’s reported disappearance.
