Embakasi North Member of Parliament James Gakuya has ignited fresh political debate after openly questioning the future of the United Democratic Alliance party even as he maintained that he has not formally exited the ruling party.

Gakuya stated that while he remains a registered member of UDA, he does not believe the party represents the political future he envisions.

The statement has been interpreted as a strong signal of internal unease within the party, particularly among leaders reassessing their positions ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The outspoken legislator, who has previously aligned himself with reformist positions, appeared keen to draw a clear distinction between party membership and political conviction.

By doing so, he avoided an outright declaration of defection while still delivering one of the most candid critiques from within UDA’s ranks.

According to Gakuya, shifting political realities require fresh thinking, new alliances, and alternative platforms.

While UDA remains Kenya’s dominant ruling party, murmurs of discontent have been growing quietly, especially among lawmakers concerned about grassroots support, internal democracy, and long-term political direction.

As the road to 2027 gradually unfolds, comments such as these are expected to increase, offering early signals of possible realignments within the ruling coalition.

For James Gakuya, the message appears carefully calibrated, he is still inside UDA but his political compass may already be pointing elsewhere.

The coming months are likely to reveal whether his words mark the beginning of a broader shift or remain a solitary voice of dissent within the party.
