Former Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has reacted to a viral video showing a young boy reportedly locked in a pen and neglected for several years.

In his post on Tuesday, January 27, Sonko expressed shock and demanded more information about the incident.

He wrote: “Nani ako na details of where this is happening? Sad to see this young boy was locked in a pen like a goat for 7 years and feeding him like a dog.

I'm 100% this ward has neighbours who could assist with more details.

We have special schools for such cases. I don't understand how the boy failed to be assisted.”

The video has sparked widespread outrage on social media, with many users condemning the apparent neglect and demanding urgent intervention from authorities.

Some have highlighted the need for closer monitoring of vulnerable children and better enforcement of child protection policies.

Sonko’s comments also called attention to the role of the community, emphasizing that neighbours, local authorities should play a more proactive role in identifying, reporting cases of child abuse, neglect.

Experts say children with special needs or vulnerabilities are entitled to specialized care, including placement in special schools, and that prolonged neglect can have severe psychological and physical consequences.

The viral footage has prompted calls for government and non-governmental organizations to step up interventions and provide immediate support to the affected child.

Authorities have yet to confirm the boy’s current condition or location, but pressure is mounting for a rapid investigation.

Sonko, known for his outspoken advocacy on social issues, vowed to follow up and ensure that justice and care are provided for the boy.
