Fresh insight into the long-running relationship between Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has emerged, shedding light on why the outspoken lawmaker was never pushed out of the party despite frequent public disagreements.
According to communication strategist Benji Ndolo, Raila viewed Sifuna not as a rebel, but as a younger version of himself principled, confrontational, and unafraid to challenge authority, even within his own political camp.
Dalung claims that the political emphasis on people like Peter Obi has led many players to ignore Amaechi's low-key but calculated political maneuver, especially in the context of opposition realignments.
He claimed that Amaechi's low-key demeanor since the 2023 elections has made room for strategic groundwork that is mostly unnoticed by the public and his opponents.
“These hopefuls will be in for a rude awakening if they aren’t careful. Referring to Amaechi, Dalung stated, "I know what he is planning underground.
The previous minister implied that Amaechi is benefiting from being undervalued, which is helping him forge coalitions and solidify his power away from the media glare and political uproar.
If the top contenders neutralize one another through internal competition, this method may be advantageous, he said.
Furthermore, Dalung pointed out that in Nigerian politics, historical precedents demonstrate that an unexpected candidate frequently emerges when prominent candidates cancel each other out.
He suggested that if the present political climate continues in the opposition arena, Amaechi might meet that description.
Despite recognizing Peter Obi's impressive showing in the 2023 elections and his popularity among young voters, Dalung insisted that political momentum alone does not ensure future success, especially in a crowded and shifting opposition landscape.
He concluded by cautioning that an excessive focus on a small number of well-known individuals may cause political players to overlook emerging tactics within the ADC, highlighting that Amaechi is still a strong and deliberate player in the developing struggle.
