Speaking during a candid conversation on Radio Jambo, Joyce revealed that her silence and unwillingness to communicate made it impossible for her marriage to survive.
She confessed that instead of talking through the problems she was facing with her husband, she chose to keep quiet, allowing bitterness to grow between them.
“I admit, I withdrew from my husband. My pride took over, and instead of opening up, I kept everything inside,” she said honestly.
Joyce explained that this silence slowly created a distance between them, one that was too wide to bridge when they finally tried to make things work.
She also noted that women often disconnect emotionally long before a marriage ends.
For her, by the time her husband wanted to fix things, she had already given up in her heart.
“Both of us were tired. We didn’t know how to move forward,” she recalled.
Looking back, Joyce accepted that her failure to communicate was the root cause of their struggles.
There were many unresolved issues, and her choice to let pride lead the way only pushed them further apart. “In the end, it was too late,” she admitted.
Despite the pain of separation, Joyce made it clear that she and her ex-husband have managed to build a respectful relationship as co-parents.
Their marriage ended in 2008, but they still communicate regularly, focusing on raising their three children.
“We co-parent well. We talk about the kids’ needs and always put them first,” she said.
