The Kenyan government has explained why a section of its citizens currently stranded in Russia has been unable to receive timely assistance, citing documentation challenges, communication barriers, and the complex situation in the region.

According to officials from the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, some Kenyans in Russia have not formally registered with the Kenyan embassy, making it difficult for authorities to verify their identities and provide support.

Registration is a key requirement for any citizen seeking government intervention while abroad, especially during emergencies.

Without official records, the process of locating and assisting affected individuals becomes slow and complicated.

The government also noted that ongoing tensions and logistical challenges in parts of Russia have affected movement and access.

In some cases, communication between stranded Kenyans and embassy officials has been limited due to language differences, poor connectivity, and lack of updated contact information. This has delayed coordination efforts aimed at ensuring their safety and welfare.

Officials emphasized that the embassy in Moscow remains operational and is actively engaging Kenyans who have reached out. The government has urged all citizens living or studying in Russia to register with the embassy and maintain regular contact.

This step will allow faster response in case of emergencies, including evacuation, legal assistance, or other forms of support.

Additionally, the Ministry reassured families in Kenya that efforts are ongoing to reach those affected. Diplomatic channels are being used to monitor the situation closely and provide assistance where possible.

The government also encouraged Kenyans planning to travel abroad to follow official procedures, register with embassies, and stay informed about conditions in their host countries.

The latest development has drawn national attention, highlighting the importance of proper documentation and embassy coordination.

Authorities have reiterated their commitment to protecting Kenyan citizens abroad and ensuring that those in distress receive the necessary help as quickly as possible.
