Former Mbeere North parliamentary aspirant Newton Kariuki has dismissed reports suggesting that he has joined the government, following speculation triggered by his recent appearances at public events alongside Embu County leadership.

The claims emerged after Kariuki was seen attending community functions with Cecily Mbarire, sparking debate among residents and political observers over whether he had shifted his political allegiance after the highly contested Mbeere North by-election.

Addressing residents in Kisimayu, Mbeti South Ward, Kariuki rejected the allegations, saying his interactions with county leaders had been misinterpreted by political opponents seeking to mislead voters.

He clarified that engagement between leaders from different political camps is common, especially when discussing development matters affecting local communities, and should not be mistaken for political realignment.

Kariuki emphasized that working with county leadership does not mean abandoning opposition politics, adding that cooperation is essential in addressing service delivery challenges faced by residents.

He further denied claims that he had secretly aligned himself with the Kenya Kwanza administration, describing the reports as politically motivated propaganda intended to damage his reputation.

The former aspirant also dismissed speculation that he intends to defect to another political party following his narrow loss in the Mbeere North parliamentary race, which saw him compete against current MP Leo wa Muthende.

He reaffirmed his loyalty to the Democratic Party, insisting that he remains committed to his political camp and continues to engage with supporters through local development discussions and community forums.

Kariuki noted that political rivalry should not hinder cooperation between leaders, especially on issues that directly impact constituents, urging for unity and constructive engagement across political divides.

He added that continued dialogue among leaders is crucial for maintaining stability and improving development outcomes in the region, even as political competition remains strong ahead of future elections.

Despite his electoral defeat, Kariuki said he remains active in local political affairs and will continue participating in public forums aimed at addressing community needs and strengthening grassroots engagement.
