A dramatic police operation along Kangundo Road ended in the arrest of three suspects and the recovery of firearms and ammunition following a high-speed chase involving officers from National Police Service attached to Kayole Police Station.
The incident unfolded near Saika stage after officers on routine patrol spotted a motorcycle carrying a rider and two pillion passengers behaving suspiciously.
According to investigators, the suspects appeared to change direction abruptly upon noticing police presence, prompting officers to initiate a pursuit into Saika Estate.
During the chase, officers intercepted the motorcycle, but two of the passengers reportedly jumped off and fled in different directions, sparking a foot pursuit through nearby residential areas.
One of the suspects, identified as 19-year-old Shem Kariuki Ondieki, allegedly dropped an object while attempting to escape. Police later recovered it and confirmed it was a Retay Falcon pistol loaded with 10 rounds of 9mm ammunition.
The motorcycle rider, identified as 19-year-old Emanuel Maina Kioi, was also arrested at the scene shortly after the pursuit ended.
Police then launched a follow-up operation to track down the third suspect, who had escaped during the initial chase.
Detectives later traced him to Dandora Phase Four, where they conducted a raid on a house believed to be linked to him. The suspect, identified as Samwel Okoth Ochieng, was arrested without incident.
During the raid, officers reportedly recovered a Ceska pistol magazine loaded with 16 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 62 assorted mobile phones, electronic items, a Mercedes-Benz ignition key, and other items suspected to be linked to criminal activity.
The suspects are currently being held in custody at Kayole Police Station pending arraignment as investigations continue.
Police believe the group may be part of an organised criminal network operating within Nairobi’s Eastlands area, and have intensified efforts to establish whether the recovered items are linked to other crimes reported in the region.
Authorities have also urged residents to remain vigilant as investigations continue into the suspected syndicate’s wider operations.
