Voting was briefly disrupted on Thursday, February 26, during the by-elections in Kakamega County after one person was arrested for voter bribery at Imbiakalo Primary School polling station in West Kabras Ward.

Police officers moved in after reports that a suspect had been offering money to voters within the polling area.

The incident caused tension at the station, and voting was stopped for a short time as officers restored calm.

The suspect was arrested and removed from the station, allowing voting to resume.

The incident came as Kenyans in selected regions headed to the polls to fill vacant seats in county assemblies and parliamentary races.

The by-elections taking place today are part of a national exercise overseen by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission to replace leaders who left office due to death or resignation.

Before the polls opened, the commission had warned against acts of bribery, intimidation and interference with voters.

Extra police officers were deployed to polling stations to ensure peace and protect the integrity of the vote.

In West Kabras Ward, voters returned to the queues after calm was restored, and the process continued under heavy security.

Election officials said no further disruption had been reported at the station.

Across Kakamega County and other voting areas, turnout has been described as steady, with voters urged to remain patient and follow the law.

Polling stations are expected to close in the evening, after which counting and tallying will begin.

The arrest has renewed calls for leaders and supporters to respect the law and allow voters to choose their representatives freely.
