A city lawyer has declared that Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna is gaining strong political ground as the country moves toward the 2027 General Election.

Speaking during a television interview, lawyer Harrison Kinyanjui said Sifuna’s influence is growing within the Orange Democratic Movement and beyond.

He noted that efforts by some party members to push him out of the Secretary General position could instead boost his popularity among ordinary citizens.

According to the lawyer, many Kenyans feel that Sifuna has remained firm on issues affecting the public.

He said this has made the senator stand out at a time when political alliances are shifting. In several parts of the country, especially in urban centres and remote counties, some citizens now see Sifuna as a leader who speaks directly to their concerns.

The remarks come at a time when ODM is facing internal tensions over its future direction. A section of party leaders is said to be warming up to cooperation with the ruling United Democratic Alliance ahead of 2027.

However, Sifuna and his allies have maintained a hard stance against President William Ruto and his administration.

Kinyanjui argued that public frustration over the high cost of living and claims of misuse of public funds have created fertile political ground for leaders who position themselves as defenders of wananchi.

He claimed that attempts to silence Sifuna within ODM may be seen by supporters as punishment for standing firm.
