A fresh storm has hit the Orange Democratic Movement ODM following the removal of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna from his position as the party’s Secretary-General.
ODM National Chairperson Gladys Wanga has now broken her silence, stating that Sifuna is free to remain a member of the party if he so wishes, but he can no longer speak on behalf of ODM in the capacity of Secretary-General.
Wanga made it clear that party positions come with responsibility and discipline. She emphasized that while ODM respects freedom of expression, official communication on behalf of the party must come from recognized office holders.
“Sifuna can remain in ODM if he wants, but he cannot speak for the party as Secretary-General,” Wanga stated firmly.
The decision to remove Sifuna has sparked mixed reactions within political circles. Some leaders allied to him have termed the move as politically motivated, while others insist it was necessary to restore order and unity within the party.
Sifuna, who has been vocal in recent political debates, had previously declared his strong stance on internal party matters, drawing both support and criticism from different ODM factions.
Political analysts say the move signals deeper realignments within ODM as the country slowly shifts focus towards the 2027 general elections.
Despite the changes, Wanga maintained that ODM remains united and focused on its broader agenda. She urged members to stay calm and respect party structures.
The developments now leave many watching closely to see Sifuna’s next political move and whether the latest shake-up will strengthen or further divide the party.
